# Why is my new trace widget link not in a Ketryx custom link field in Jira?

This is expected behavior. For example, when you create a child requirement in the traceability widget in Jira, the parent item will show in the trace. However, the “Parent requirements” field in Jira will not automatically populate as Jira relation fields may not consistently show relevant data. The traceability widget and the Ketryx item record are the source of truth for relationships between items, and it is recommended to always use the traceability widget for viewing and editing relations.
