# Why don't I see an approval button for my release documentation?

> **In short:** Figure 1 - User is unable to see an approval button Figure 2 - User is able to see an approval button The reason you don't see the approval button for your release documentation is likely due to the configuration of approval rules in your project settings.

The reason you don't see the approval button for your release documentation is likely due to the configuration of approval rules in your project settings. It's important to note that there are two different types of approval rules: **Release approval rules** and **Document approval rules**.

**Release approval rules** govern the approval of **both** the product version release and the release documentation.

**Document approval rules** determine who can review and approve documents within the **eQMS**, but these rules **do not apply to release documentation**.

If you're unable to approve the release documentation, check that you belong to the groups defined under the **Release approval rules**. If you're not included in these groups, you won't be able to see the approval button.

As shown in **Figure 1**, the user "Lee R&D" cannot see the approvals button because they belong to the R&D group, which is not designated as an approval group for Releases, as indicated in **Figure 3**. However, "Lee R&D" is a member of the R&D group, which has permission to approve documents, as shown in **Figure 4**. This illustrates the distinction between the two approval groups and highlights how the **Document approval rules** do not impact the approval of release documentation.
