# How can I create a custom field that is also editable in Ketryx?

Instructions on how to add custom fields to configuration items that are also editable in Ketryx can be found in our documentation [here](https://docs.ketryx.com/reference/advanced-settings#custom-item-fields-configuration). The types of fields that you are able to create include: rich text fields, short text fields, single select fields, multi-select fields, date fields, and date and time fields.

As a brief summary of the steps necessary to achieve this, first create the custom field in the "Custom item fields configuration" advanced project setting. Then reference the newly created custom field in the "Item fields" project advanced setting under the relevant configuration items that you would like to see the field appear in.

**Note:** This method of configuring custom fields on configuration items is inherently different than this FAQ [article](how-do-i-create-custom-fields-in-jira-and-ketryx.md) as this method is not dependent on a Jira connection to the project.

**Warning:** It is advised that you do not re-use field names that already exist in the Ketryx instance or the connected Jira instance, re-using field names that already exist may lead to data loss.
