# Does Ketryx Support Multiple Traceability Matrices?

> **In short:** Yes, Ketryx can support multiple traceability matrices. Organizations often maintain multiple discipline-specific traceability areas.

Yes, Ketryx can support multiple traceability matrices. Organizations often maintain multiple discipline-specific traceability areas.

Three advanced settings are key to meet your company's traceability needs:

1. ### **Project-level advanced configuration setting** Traceability configurations![](https://support.ketryx.com/hc/article_attachments/34649573940365)

**Traceability Configurations** in Ketryx’s advanced project settings the full customization of traceability views. It supports customization of:

   - **Traceability Columns**: Define which item types appear in the trace matrix (e.g., Requirements, Specifications, Tests).![Screenshot 2025-07-24 at 10.54.40 AM.png](https://support.ketryx.com/hc/article_attachments/38297948531341)
   - **Checks: traceability checks in Ketryx are configurable rules that enforce coverage and completeness in the Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM), such as ensuring items in one column (e.g., requirements) are covered by items in another (e.g., specifications or test cases), and can include checks for test executions, item states, and cross-referenced items.** **![Screenshot 2025-07-24 at 10.33.49 AM.png](https://support.ketryx.com/hc/article_attachments/38297373405581)**

   - **Relations:** Configure how items trace to each other by leveraging relations (e.g., `Has_parent``FULFILLS`, `VERIFIES`).

   - **Warnings:** Customize error or warning messages shown when traceability gaps in the item itself. **![Screenshot 2025-07-24 at 12.08.40 PM.png](https://support.ketryx.com/hc/article_attachments/38300621984141)**

   - **Cross-Project References:** Cross-project referencing can enhance traceability models operating in the subspace of a larger traceability model and leverage artifacts from multiple external projects. This is enabled at the project-level settings. More information about cross-project references can be found [here](https://docs.ketryx.com/manuals/man-01-ketryx-lifecycle-management#id-5.7.1.-cross-project-references). ![](https://support.ketryx.com/hc/article_attachments/34649573941133)

Configuration is done in JSON under the `Traceability configurations` field in project Advanced Settings. More information on how to configure a traceability matrix can be found [here](https://docs.ketryx.com/reference/traceability-configuration).

2. ### **Project-level advanced configuration setting** Additional traceability configurations

The **Additional Traceability Configurations** setting in Ketryx allows teams to define multiple, named traceability matrix views beyond the default configuration. These views are accessible via the Traceability UI menu and are useful for managing distinct trace needs across disciplines or workflows.

   - **Multiple Matrices**: Support distinct trace views for different disciplines or workflows within the same project.![](https://support.ketryx.com/hc/article_attachments/34649528750989)
   - **Named Configurations**: Each matrix can be named (e.g., "RTM v3 standard"), making it easy for users to select from the UI dropdown.

   - **Independent Rules**: Each configuration can enforce different traceability checks, column layouts, and approval settings.

   - **Release Enforcement**: Use `enforceGreenCheck` to control whether a configuration impacts the release checklist and traceability validation.

   - **Column and Relation Customization**: Each matrix supports its own set of columns, relations, and trace rules.

Configuration is done in JSON under the `Additional traceability configurations` field in the project Advanced Settings.

3. ### **Document Configuration** **Project-level advanced Setting**

The **Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM)** settings in the Document Configuration section of Ketryx’s advanced project settings allow you to customize the content and formatting of RTM released generated documents. These settings control how the RTM is rendered during document generation and determine which traceability views are available to the templating engine.

   - **Matrix Content Control**: Choose what is relevant to include or exclude specific item types, such as use cases or specifications.

   - **Excluded Test Handling**: Define whether and when excluded tests are shown (e.g., never, or only if inherited from a previous release).

   - **Column Customization**: Rename or hide default columns in the RTM (e.g., change “Use case ID” to “User requirement ID” or remove “Requirement type” entirely).

   - **Templating Compatibility**: Determines which RTM variants are available for inclusion in release documents through the templating engine.

   - **Tailored Outputs**: Supports multiple RTM styles to align with regulatory or organizational document standards.

Configuration is done via JSON in the`Requirements Traceability Matrix` field under Document Configuration in project Advanced Settings.
