The input / output field could be used as a field to exhibit the necessary inputs within a specification and how these inputs are necessary to achieve the intended output. Per WI-02 Software Item Specification:

Inputs (rich text): Inputs to this software item.
Outputs (rich text): Outputs of this software item.

Please note that this field is not required by default to approve a specification.
